It’s important to open the box from both the top and the bottom, then slide the Styrofoam packaging with the glass shade out onto a table. If you only open the top and then flip the box upside down like a baking mold, some small parts might fall out and roll away, as they’re stored behind a slanted section of the Styrofoam packaging.
The Vintage Glass Ceiling Pendant looks just like the catalogue photos, although the pattern on the bottle-green shade appears a little softer in real life. The green light may feel unusual at first but has a calming effect.
The power cable doesn’t need to be switched, because the lamp itself can be turned on and off with the brass knurled rotary switch above the socket. Turn it clockwise or counterclockwise to switch it off. If needed, a tiny drop of superglue can be used to secure the switch.
If there’s already a hook in the ceiling, the lamp can be mounted with just one screw, although two screws are recommended (see the photo for the dimensions of the keyholes). If you need an opening for an external cable, it can be quickly cut with a household saw (metal blade) and then bent inward with pliers. A nice detail is that the heavy glass shade is only hung after the ceiling mount and height adjustment are complete. Thanks to its knurled screw fittings, the shade can also be removed easily at any time. The texture is not printed on but is part of the glass itself. I haven’t tested whether the shade is dishwasher-safe, but it can be removed easily for cleaning.
The two-core, twisted cable is wrapped in a subtle matte beige fabric and allows for a hanging length of up to 155 cm (to the top edge of the shade) below the ceiling. The included cable can also be replaced without any issues.
The height is adjusted by coiling or trimming the cable inside the ceiling cup and fixing it with a plastic screw that has the same thread as the screws for the shade mount. If you ever prefer a less “brassy” look, the shade holder can be mounted underneath the shade (see picture), though this means you’ll lose the use of the rotary switch.
Overall, the Vintage Glass Ceiling Pendant impresses with its solid craftsmanship. Its ability to be taken apart into individual components makes it flexible and easy to modify.
The vintage pendant light looks very beautiful, but the quality is average. For the price, it’s still decent. The glass is very thin and can break easily, so it should be kept out of reach of children, pets, and anything that might knock into it. The E27 socket allows you to use LED bulbs, and I recommend choosing a warm light color.
